7 Awesome Video Games to Buy in 2021

In July we can all sigh in relief knowing that we are already halfway through 2021. Video games have been a regular escape from reality for many people these past few months.

Previously this year we had a great variety of titles. Brigandine: The Legend of Runesia brought both turn-based strategy and beautiful artwork to the Nintendo Switch. The broadly discussed The Last of Us II took gamers on a great journey of love, survival, and revenge, set in post-apocalyptic America. Those who looked for something more playful had SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. The game remastered the popular 3D platform game for modern PCs and consoles.

July has a lot to offer in terms of the new games. If you own PSVR, you should try out Marvel’s Iron Man VR; this is a high-flying game action-shooter that allows you to try on Tony Stark’s power armor. Or take a look at Ghost of Tsushima, where you can battle attacking Mongols in 1200’s Japan.

There are even more games to look forward to, so check out our recommendations.

A great VR game is rare, and developer Camouflaj is expected to deliver one this month. In this game, you wear the iconic armor and fly across many stages, destroying all mechanical threats getting in your way. Your purpose is to defeat Ghost. This is a hacker who activated Stark’s old weapons and tries to use them against the Avenger.

CrossCode

  • Release: July 9
  • Platform: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
  • MSRP: $19.99

This action-RPG merges fast-paced battle and 16-bit style graphics to build a retro-style romp. Your character is Lea, a mute girl who plays through a fictional MMORPG. The game is full of labyrinthine puzzles, interesting fights, and constant exploration. CrossCode is full of nostalgia romp expected to harken back to RPGs like Chrono Trigger. At the same time, it’s more than challenging, and the gameplay feels like an unusual and satisfying game.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise

  • Release: July 10
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch
  • MSRP: $49.99

Deadly Premonition is a strange game that has formed a cult pursuing its Twin Peaks-style quirkiness, blunt gameplay systems, and odd characters, and this sequel devotedly does the same. You play as York, a detective who investigates crime in La Carré. Just like the original game, the sequel combines driving and exploration with third-person shooting, and also an eclectic cast of characters.

Ghost of Tsushima

  • Release: July 17
  • Platform: PS4
  • MSRP: $59.99

This game sends you to the middle of Japan conquered by Mongols circa 1200. You’ll play as Jin Sakai, one of the surviving Samurai left on the Tsushima island. His task is to destroy the enemies by any means as a samurai or the ninja-like ghost. The game includes tight melee combat as well as stealth actions, which let you decide how to solve any given problem.

Paper Mario: The Origami King

We are presented with a whole new dimension of a famous game in The Origami King. The Paper Mario faces a brand new threat, the Folded Soldiers, origami monstrosities determined to conquer the realm. F1 2020

  • Release: July 10
  • Platform: PC, Xbox One, PS4, Stadia
  • MSRP: $59.99

Maybe some racing action is just what you need right now. F1 2020 presents 22 circuits and 20 drivers who you compete with in the Grand Prix. There’s also a new to F1 2020 My Team feature, which allows you to create and manage a team.

Fight Crab

  • Release: July 30
  • Platform: PC
  • MSRP: TBD

This action game has massive crustaceans that fight against one another to the death. Pincers are absolutely essential, but the arenas are littered with guns, bottles,  spears, and other weapons. You can shuffle around your competitor and swing your weapon to get their armaments, and lay on the hurt. It’s very silly and fun, and you’ll find it on Steam in late July. PS4 and Switch versions will come out later this year.
